Before you sign up for any type of Bootcamp…

Please get in-tune with yourself and know your learning style. I can not stress this enough! Knowing your learning style is crucial to your success of a Bootcamp. Make sure the Bootcamp has a FAQ and/or QA prior to the start date of the bootcamp. Some questions that you should be asking as an attendee is: who is teaching the bootcamp? Will notes and templates be provided? etc. The questions are endless, but if a bootcamp does not have an info session before the start date, then that’s probably not the bootcamp for you.

How to get in-tune with your learning style:

Take some self-assessments such Gallup’s Clifton Strengths (cost from $25-$65,) that help you identify some of your strengths and weaknesses. Find out if you’re a hands-on learner or a visual learner. Find out if you learn better by reading book or instructional videos. It will take trial an error, but once you’ve mastered your learning styling, it’s only up from there.

Fun Tip: I learn better by reading books. Once I’m done reading for the day, I write a summary/recap of what I just read. It’s usually no longer than a paragraph. Once I’ve finished reading the entire book, I write a one page recap of everything I learned. This also applies to e-learning. Even though I’m not fond of instructional videos, sometimes the content quality is better via an instructional video. I type notes in a Google Doc as I go, sort of like transcription (translating audio into words,) where I’m pausing the video to translate what I just learned, into summarized text that I can understand.

Make sure to fine-tune and adjust your learning style accordingly, to help you retain the most information.
